Community Foundation Awards $500,000 in Scholarships

The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region celebrated more than 50 of the Capital Region’s most promising students at its annual Scholarship Reception, held Wednesday, July 22, at SUNY Polytech Institute’s Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering.

More than 160 guests attended the inspiring event, which brought brings together students and their families with the donors who have sponsored their scholarships.

This year, the Community Foundation awarded more than $500,000 in grade school, college and professional education scholarships to local students—nearly $100,000 more than in 2014. Scholarships are sponsored by a wide range of organizations, families and individuals, including the William Randolph Hearst Scholarship Fund, the Phyllis E. Dake “Make Your Own” Scholarship Fund for children of Stewart’s Shops employees, and the Gene Robb Scholarship Fund. A number of the scholarships are administered by the Foundation in conjunction with its community partners, the Bethlehem Central Community Foundation and the Niskayuna Community Foundation.
